Having been established in 1964 by a group of Midlands enthusiasts.
Founder members were Stan and Olive Stones of Stanolly Kennel fame, who acted as Secretaries, Fred Cross (President) and Mary Taunt (Chairman). The Club was set up to serve owners, breeders and exhibitors. The objects of the Club are to promote the health, welfare and showing of Bedlington Terriers.

This year we are very pleased to announce we have been awarded a 2nd Championship show by the Kennel Club, this is in recognition of our successful shows over the last few years. We will hold both Championship shows on 15th June 2024 at the Kennel Club Building in Stoneleigh Park. Schedules will be online very soon!

Although the youngest of the three breed clubs the MBTC is loyally supported by its members at the two open shows and one championship show which it holds each year. The Club also holds breed seminars and fun days.

Since 1964 club shows have been held at various venues in the Midlands, including Freehay Village Hall near Cheadle in North Staffordshire, Calf Heath Village Hall, Wolverhampton, The Canine Academy at Tollerton just outside Nottingham, Whitacre Village Hall just off junction 9 of the M42, Yelvertoft Village Hall, Northamptonshire, Corley Village Hall near Coventry, Roade Village Hall Northamptonshire and The Kennel Club building at Stoneleigh.

Pet owners, interested spectators and aspiring exhibitors are always welcome at our shows, and can be assured of a friendly greeting and. if needed, a helping hand with tips on showing and grooming. In recent years we have added 'Have A Go' classes for newcomers, which have proved quite popular and fun. We plan to continue with these and maybe some other enter on the day events too.

The Club also encourages the aspiring judge by offering appointments to both breed and non-breed specialists at open shows.

All dog clubs are encouraged by the Kennel Club to promote the development of breed understanding by holding seminars, and the Midland Bedlington Terrier Club has organised seminars on movement and conformation, KC Rules and Regulations, Stewarding, judging procedures and assessments, as well as breed specific seminars and hands on assessment. The Club has also organised two successful seminars/workshops on grooming and trimming as well as running fun days.
